Timing an air race usually means bolting something to the aircraft, or trusting a transponder to report honestly at two hundred knots and fifty feet.
Gorace does neither. It just watches the race — one camera, and the timing comes out the other end.
How It Works
A single ground-based camera, several computer vision models working the same frame, and real-time track fusion — turning what one camera sees into timing data for the race.
Detect
Several vision models work the same frame in parallel, picking race aircraft out against sky, terrain and ground clutter — low, fast and small in frame.
Identify
Detections are matched to the specific aircraft in the race, so a track belongs to a competitor rather than being an anonymous moving dot. Models that disagree get reconciled rather than averaged.
Track
Model outputs are fused across frames into continuous tracks, held through overlap, occlusion and close passes where two aircraft cross in frame.
Time
Those tracks become timing data for the race — produced live, as the aircraft come through, rather than reconstructed afterward.
Why Vision
Nothing Aboard the Aircraft
No transponder, no tracker, no mounting, no wiring, no weight, no sign-off from anyone about what you attached to a race aircraft. If it flies through the frame, it gets timed.
No Setup Per Competitor
Nothing to fit, charge, hand out or collect between heats. Aircraft that enter late or swap in don't need anything prepared for them.
Built for Low and Fast
The regime where race aircraft actually fly — low altitude, high speed, tight courses, close passes — is the case the system is designed around rather than an edge case.
One Camera
A single camera and the box that drives it. That's the deployment. It sets up for an event and packs down again.
Live, Not Reconstructed
Timing is produced as the aircraft come through, not assembled from footage afterward.

Timing is the first thing we pointed it at, not the limit of it. Once a system can reliably find, identify and follow an aircraft from a single camera, a lot of things open up.

The same tracks that produce lap times carry speed, line and separation. There is a lot more to tell an audience than who crossed first.
Live Broadcast Graphics
Track data driving on-screen overlays and telemetry, so viewers can see the race the way the timing system sees it.
Wider Coverage
More of the course, and eventually more of the airspace around it, as the model ensemble and the camera coverage grow together.
Beyond Racing
Airshows, airfields and anywhere else it helps to know what is in the air without waiting for it to announce itself.
